Lady Mustangs claim NFCA NAIA Leadoff Classic Title


PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – Central Baptist won three games on Sunday to claim the 2012 NFCA NAIA Leadoff Classic championship with a perfect 6-0 record at Frank Brown Park in Panama City Beach.

The Mustangs put an exclamation point on their tournament in their final game by topping Martin Methodist, 8-0, in six innings in the gold bracket championship.

The tournament’s Most Valuable Player, Kira Bonner, had another big game for Central Baptist, going 2-for-3 with a triple and a RBI. Meanwhile in the circle, the tournament’s Most Valuable Pitcher, Jessica Bock, picked up her fourth win of the weekend by allowing just three hits and striking out four.

In the silver bracket, Reinhardt used a two-RBI, walk-off double from Lindsey Booker in the bottom of the seventh to top Columbia (Mo.), 2-1, and claim the championship. Jennie Chamness also played a key role in the win and went 1-for-2 in the game with a run, a RBI and a walk.
