CBC Student Story

Going to college has always been a major goal for my life. During my senior year of high school, I applied to four colleges, but my heart was completely set on one school. For as long as I can remember my dream has been to attend Central Baptist College.

Feels Just Like Home

When I was asked throughout high school where I wanted to go for college my answer was always CBC. I grew up attending a Baptist Missionary Association church, going to SOAR conferences every summer, and attending BMA church camps. Central Baptist College is supported by the churches of the BMA, so I grew up hearing about CBC everywhere I went and many people that I admire also attended CBC. I think of CBC as a family school, not only because many of my family members attended CBC, but also because as I have personally experienced in my time at CBC, the professors, faculty, and students have made it feel just like home. The small campus and low student-to-teacher ratio made me fall in love with CBC even more because the professors truly care about the success of every student. The opportunity to build relationships that will help me today and in the future is invaluable.

My Academic Journey

My personal experience as a student at CBC began in the fall of 2017, and I plan to graduate in the spring of 2021. When I was in high school, I had the opportunity to use and develop my communication skills, meet new people, build relationships, and grow as a leader of others. In my high school career, I took Business and Marketing classes and absolutely loved my experience, so as I began to choose my field of study when attending college, it seemed only fitting to continue doing what I came to love in high school. As a sophomore in college, I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing, along with a minor in Communications.

Apart of Something Bigger

As the time came for me to make my choice of where to attend college, I was looking for a place that offered not only the degree plan I was pursuing, but also the opportunity to continue to develop my leadership and communication skills in my education career. My desire was for my college of choice to be more than just a place where I went to class but allowed me to be a part of something bigger. When the opportunity came to apply to be a Leadership Scholar at CBC, it was an answer to my prayers. I knew that with an opportunity like this I would have the chance throughout my four years in college to continue to use and develop the skills from my time in high school. When I was notified that I was a recipient of the Leadership Scholarship my decision on where I wanted to attend college had been made.

My CBC Experience

During my time at CBC, I have built relationships, learned valuable skills, along with making countless memories with people who have become my best friends. My favorite thing is the multiple ways that I can get involved on campus. I am a part of the Student Orientation Staff where I have the opportunity to welcome the new freshman coming to CBC every fall, and spend time helping them get connected during their first week on campus. SOS gave me the opportunity to build stronger relationships with my fellow students, and to meet new ones.

Campus Life

I am also involved with the Student Activities Board. This group helps plan campus wide activities to bring students together. The most popular event is Harvest Party that takes place in November each year. This is a great event where the girls ask the guy, and you just have a night to hang out with all of your friends. Intramurals is one of my favorite things to get involved in at CBC. I am not a part of a sports team, but I love being competitive and playing with friends. Intramurals gives me the opportunity to do this, especially during my favorite activities, Wallyball and Volleyball. These activities are a great way to make memories with your friends. Along with SOS, SAB, and being involved in intramurals, I am a Student Ambassador for CBC. As a Student Ambassador I work in the Registrar’s office as an aid to the Registrar. I also help with events around campus that involve new students.

Opportunities to Grow

CBC has given me many opportunities to grow as a student and as a leader. I am so thankful for the opportunities I have been given while attending here, and I look forward to the future opportunities. My time at CBC has helped me develop purpose for my life in an environment that keeps me focused on my relationship with God. As I look toward the future, I have set some goals that I would like to accomplish in the future. After graduation in 2021, I hope to continue my education journey and earn a master’s degree. While doing this, I hope to work with a Marketing agency that allows me to use my God-given talents and skills I have developed during my educational journey to help benefit the company.

Finding Her Purpose

I gave some thought about what to call this “blog” about me and my life at CBC, and I knew I didn’t want it to just be my name. I knew I wanted it to reflect what my journey with CBC has meant to me. I am calling this “Finding Her Purpose.” As a Christian a big part of my testimony is realizing my self-worth and finding my purpose here on earth. I know that the same God that created the earth, also created me and I am here to bring honor and glory to His name. In everything I do, my prayer is that I can bring praise to His name, and that I am just a vessel to show His love to others.
